The History of The Norwegian Fjord Horse

The Norwegian Fjord Horse has been around at least since the days of the Vikings.
Selective breeding of the horse has been recorded for about 2,000 years.
The Norwegian Fjord Horse was used for raids, hunting, pulling sleds,
and in the Viking sport of horse fighting.
Remains of the animal have been found in burial mounds of wealthy Vikings.
It was customary for such Vikings to be buried with their worldly goods.

The Norwegian Fjord Horse is dun colored.
The body is generally short, strongly coupled with good depth
and well developed muscles.
The legs are strong with substantial bone and hard feet.
Fjord Horses are between 13 and 15 hand high,
and weigh between 900 and 1,500 pounds.

These horses are mild mannered, calm, sensible and predictable.
They are friendly, strong, surefooted, courageous and thrifty.
They have graceful and balanced gaits both under saddle and in harness.

Norwegian Fjord Horses are not related to the Prezwelski Horse.
Research has found a different chromosome count.
The Norwegian Fjord Horse is, however, a direct
descendant of the
Ewoks Norse Horse which was traced back to the Ice Age.
